Jenny Banai Kuri
December 1 Jenny Banai & Kuri

December 1

*** Jenny Banai & Kuri Live Performance at Darwin’s Café – 7pm
(*** With Admission Card $5, Without Admission Card $15, at the door)

Listen to Jenny Banai

Early Autumn of last year dawned the release of Jenny Banai’s debut album, ‘flowering head’, produced by Vancouver’s fairy folk artist, Jordan Klassen and multi-instrumentalist, Daniel Klenner. An interweaving of liturgical poems and surprising melodies vehicle a dreamy vibrancy. Likened to folk-pop artist, Feist and legendary folk artist, Joni Mitchell, Jenny’s voice is radiant as the sun with the solace of a wind chime. Listeners are enchanted to a cleansing and vulnerable state by her captivating and honest performance. Jenny’s voice is scarlet.

Listen to Kuri

Kuri is a recording artist based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Performing for several years with his group, Oh Village, listeners have come to appreciate his honest songwriting and intriguing musicianship. Now he experiments further with bold arrangements of classical instrumentation paired with modern alternative structures.

His latest release, Human Nature (October 2016), is his most ambitious work yet. Recorded at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, BC, Kuri pulls from his influences in jazz, classical, folk, and rock to create a remarkable piece of art. Kuri hints at existentialism without spending too much time in the grey. He questions the state of his own sanity and how that plays into his relationships with others. And at just over twenty-two minutes, Human Nature is a fantastic introduction to this young musicians career.

December 22
Carol Sing-a-Long
 with Esther Celebrini 7pm

We all love sing-a-longs! We’re bringing out the snare drum for a good rum-pa-pum-pum and yes, sleigh bells for us to jingle all the way…

This one is especially suited for kids from one to ninety-two, although it’s been said many times, many ways, there’s no better way to say “Merry Christmas” than to sing carols together. Children will receive lyric sheets with colouring at the back. Bring your crayons and markers!
We will start at the piano in Darwin’s Cafe with Esther Celebrini and then try our carolling out on Daisy and Gilbert.
